What type of a basketball do they use in college basketball?

NBA uses Spadling, what brand do colleges use.

What type of a basketball do they use incollegebasketball?sports

It varies. Some use Rawlings, who makes a ten-panel ball that is required in communitycollegeplay. Some of the big schools with Nike contracts for shoes and clothing also use Nike balls.

Spalding still makes a good ball that many colleges and high schools like, the TopFlite 1000.

Rawlings
i think the name is a rawlings
i think the brand differs but the NCAA doesnt use leather balls, they use synthetic ones
It varies conference to conference. Some still use the leather ball, but most use synthetic now.

What are the specifics to college basketball as far as the tournaments and NCAA championship goes?

I was watching [women] North Carolina and Maryland play for the ACC championship yesterday and I kept hearing the announcer say that NC had won the ACC championship before but that they'd lost the NCAA championship.

At first I thought the tournament championships were like the eastern and western conference championships in the WNBA/NBA but then the announcer said that Maryland won the NCAA championship but not the ACC championship. So I'm confused. Someone please explain.

What are the specifics tocollegebasketball as far as the tournaments and NCAA championship goes?nba dunks

Incollegebasketball there are many conferences, including the ACC, SEC, Big East, Big Ten, etc. Each conference has an individual tournament to declare a champion specific to that conference. That conference champion gets an automatic bid to the NCAA championship. The NCAA tournament then consists of all the conference champions, and the best remaining teams in the country. So it is possible to win the NCAA tournament but not the conference tournament, and vice versa.

It's possible, but you'd have to be an exceptional athlete. You'd have to be willing to work very hard as well. A small school wouldn't hurt.

It's possible, but the big basketball powers like Florida, Texas, Ohio State, UCLA and the like won't be interested in you. You might want to start off in a communitycollegeif you're interested in inter-collegiate athletics. If it's just for fun, most colleges have an intra-mural program of some kind.
Yes
yes it is, but the thing is you have to be exceptionally good because youll hav e the cards stack against you. also, you have to develope a high basketball iq, which most players get through playing organized ball all their lives. and another thing, most walk-ons played in high school.... but dont let all these difficulties stop you because anything is possible and this isnt a very big stretch.

look at it this way: antonio gates from the san diego chargers became one of the best tight ends in football without playingcollegefootball (different sport but same, and ever harder, concept)
It happens. Scottie Pippen was a towel boy for hiscollegeteam until his sophomore year. A growth spurt at about 18 or 19 years old would sure help your chances.
If I told you "no" would that stop you from trying out?

Anything is possible. There have been walk-on's in pro ball withoutcollegeexperience.
Sure you can. Do you play in any club leagues? Tere are opportunities at many levels, not just DI. I hope your the toughest guy ever at 5'10 150 pounds because you will be pounded and you will have to learn to shoot over 6'3-6'6 guards who are just as fast and a lot stronger.

At 5'10 you better be able to shoot from the nba 3 point line or else you wont be getting many good looks. Also i hope you are a great passer because its not a ideal situation for a team to have a 5'10 pure shooting guard.

Defense-wise you need to have some toughness even if you are smaller you can still contribute as long as you hustle. I would suggest toughening up so do some Boxing or join a football practice or something.

How can I get to play basketball in college?

Ok here is the deal, all throught my high school career I only played basketball in my freshman year. I know that I'm better than most of the players on the varsity team, and they are pretty good. But when i tried out for varsity both junior and senior year I was cut. Now I'm at the end of my high school life and about to move on to college. My mom says that I should go to a JC for two years and transfer out, but others that have seen me play say that I should go to a university. The problem is that since I didn't play varsity I can't get a scholarship. Can anybody help me with this problem? I would really like it if acollegecoach told me what to do since they are the ones that really do know.

How can I get to play basketball in college?nba draft

Get on an AAU team. If not contact your local JC's coach and see what you can do. The best case scenario is to go to a JC and than have a chance at transferring out while getting an education.

How can I get to play basketball in college?ncaa ,nba teams

My son (when he graduated from High School) had a hard time getting an athletic scholarship and he was one of the top players in our state (voted on by the coaches). He won every award his last couple of years of High School and it was still difficult because he was only 5' 11". If you're as good as you say, they would have put you on the team. No coach is going to turn down a good player. They want to win! There are nocollegecoaches on here answering questions; they're out recruiting High School players right now. If I'm wrong and I realize I could be, then go to a Junior College and try out for the team. If you're good enough, they'll put you on the team.
go see the JC athletics dept.
well usually, you would have to be recruited to play in college, or at least make the try outs if they have any
see the athletics dept.
You just aren't good enough. Don't say you are better but didn't make the team because that makes no sense it's just an excuse cuz you are not as good as the other kids. The varsity coaches look for the most talent, and the best players, and you are not one of them.
Most likely, you're not going to be playing for a D-1 or D-11 school. Even great high schoolers don't get scholarships. But if you really want to play in college, contact the athletics department at either a D-111, NAIC, or JC to see what it takes to participate with their team.
If u really r good u would not have been cut.but if u r good and ur coach just didnt like u then u should go to a jc for a year then transfer to a university.
Honestly you are not good enough. If you did not make the Varsity team junior or senior year then there is no chance. I know you probably think there is some kind of conspiracy against you and thats why you didn't make the team, but no coach would cut one of his best players. Most players who get scholarships played varsity since they were a sophomore or even freshman (or if you're O.J. Mayo 7th grade). So if you didn't even make the team as a SENIOR...you really don't have a realistic view of how good you are.
JC's a good option because it'll be slightly less competititive so you can have more time to refine your skills so that when you transfer you can look better in front of varsity coaches. Another thing you can do is go tocollegeor university and just try out for the team as a walk-on. Many of today's pros playedcollegeball first as walk-ons, so if you really feel that you're good enough, you can give that a try.
You should go to a juniorcollegeand get your playing time there.

While you can try to walk on at a University, if you're competing against scholarship athletes, chances are you won't get much playing time even if you're just as talented as they are. It's kind of like the NBA where they will play the guys with the big contract for a couple years over the guy with the one year deal. In college, you don't have time to wait the year or two for them to leave.

Go to a juniorcollegewhere you have a better chance to get a good amount of playing time. If you're as good as you say you are, you could be one of the top players on your JUCO team and then transfer to a university.

But you really have to do your homework and check out the schools you are interested in. If you're serious about going straight to the university, contact the athletic departments at the schools, make a tape of yourself playing ball. You really have to market yourself to see if there is any interest. Since you don't have a resume of high school experience and/or stats, you have to do other things.

Bottom line is, if you have the talent, you can make it somewhere, somehow. But you have to showcase it.
i would say go to a jc cuz if u didnt play on varsity no one will know who u r or how much talent u have

Are these the only 2 reasons you like the NBA over college basketball?

I mean don't get me wrong the NBA is fantastic but thecollegegame is just better especially the tournament.

Are these the only 2 reasons you like the NBA overcollegebasketball?nba playoffs 2007

because the players incollegethat are stars only stay for one year and go to the nba, where they face players who are much better than they are. nba is where the greatest ball players want to gather in. its not only about individual skills, you see a lot more plays, defense is tighter, the game is faster, the players are bigger. its the ultimate basketball competition. i agree march madness is amazing, simply because anyone can win it all and its exciting to see upsets.

Are these the only 2 reasons you like the NBA overcollegebasketball?nba league pass ,nba teams

No there are like 124214

I will give you 1:

NBA has superstars and are more exciting to watch, cuz players have superier skills than in college, which is why ONLYcollegesuperstars CAN play in the NBA.
You forgot a potential reason #3. You hate the concept of having PG run the floor, and having the team concept, and prefer the I will drive to the hole no matter if the other team double, or triple teams me.
NBA is justcollegepros put in a team College ball is students incollegeplaying ball...its more exciting
college sports %26gt; professional sports
i agree thatcollegeb-ball has TOO MANY TIMEOUTS

also i kinda like to know the names of the players i'm watching... unless you're an alum or something, most of thecollegegames don't mean diddly squat to you unless something or someone out of the ordinary is involved....

in the NBA you know most of the players, and like the 1st poster said, they're the best of the best, either skillwise, athletic-wise or potential/upside-wise.. of course you get you're olowokandis, darkos and kwame browns every now and again but most of these dudes at some point in their career was a big fish in a small pond somewhere....
i agree in the nba its about who has the biggest star incollegeit takes a team
The one thing I absolutely hate aboutcollegebasketball is the infinite number of timeouts during the games...You got television timeouts, along w/ the coaches timeouts, and add to that the constant blowing of the referee's whistles...All this has madecollegebasketball unwatchable...

First of all you must play varsity if you're in 11th grade or higher, its the rule. Second, for the love of god stay in school and get a better education. Third, "sucky people"....haha i dont know, just play smarter than them.
Well, I've had the same problem with my team. We always played at the other team's level instead of our own level.

Yes but there is somthing u must know and thats u must puy 110% into basketball now. Take Candice Parker she knew she wanted to play ball so she was always out there working always. You must be the first one to practice and the last one out. These 8th graders are born with talent but they worked. I dont know how good u r but u NEED to want it more then everyone else. You must eat driknk and sleep basketball. All these letters are not going to come over night. Dont feel bad if nothing comes till 11th or 12th grade but thats when the scouts kick it into gear. Work hard, show you will do anything to play, work with your coaches and they will help you. Good luck.
If you plan on working your tail off for the next 4 years.... then yea. I would suggest getting a trainer.

Which Do You Prefer-College Basketball or the NBA?

In football, I widely prefer the NFL tocollegefootball. However, it is different with basketball. I find the NBA unwatchable these days. The crowd is mainly dead at the games. The players tend to act mainly like thugs (with some exceptions) and the way the game is played is poor. Today's player can't shoot and it is too much about the individual. March Madness blows away the NBA playoffs.

Which Do You Prefer-College Basketball or the NBA?sports tickets

The pros are much more entertaining to watch in my opinion. You give'em an inch and they'll do something amazing each play. They're the cream of the crop.

Which Do You Prefer-College Basketball or the NBA?concert tickets ,nba teams

I prefer the College Basketball much more, I hate the NBA because they are all snobs and think they are the s***!! However I do like Gilbert, Lebron, Wade. This may sound stupid but i think that the NBA playoffs are staged for more viewers. Go Providence College Friars!
I likecollegebasketball better but I wouldnt say the way the game is played is poor. The NBA is getting better because they are starting to realize that they need to play better defense which is whats happening, thats why you see less shots made. Example: Dirk is normally an incredible shooter but Golden State defended the heck out of him and just shut him down. What great games we have had this season.
NBA because they play hard and they play good. compared to collage collage is a cople 3 year olds
I totally agree with your statement about how poorly these NBA players play these days. I've been a Lakers fan since '79, and it's disgusting how the game has changed since then. Especially when the refs get away with the constant no-calls and bad calls-----I think someone should police the refs; hold them accountable for making or not making certain calls during games, especially in the NBA Playoffs. The NBA refs should be investigated, I think they take bribes under the table to make and/or not make certain calls in crucial games in the Playoffs.

But thecollegegames are alot more enjoyable to watch----March Madness never disappoints me. Those kids play with alot more heart than the guys in the pros.
IF U WANTED TO SEE A LIVE CROUD at an nba game u should have seen the golden state warriors against DALLAS..golden state fans were in an ocean of gold and the NOISE through the ROOF!!
I think the opposite of you, I prefer College football over the NFL, and the NBA much more overcollegebasketball.
I love NCAA in all aspects. They have passion, heart, pride, and they play as a team for one goal. NBA all play for one goal too but its who has the biggest paycheck. Its all about money. True they all want a championship but with that they get paid more. I Live in College Station, Texas so my answer might be a little biased but I think my oppion would be the same regardless.

GOOD QUESTION!!!!!
college is much more exicting except come playoff time you r very crrect about the thugs comment
Please start watching the Phoenix Suns, and the Detroit Pistons...They are so exciting to watch in the playoffs. Heck, even the GSW...During the regular season of college, almost all the games are blow-outs, unless, they are two VERY high ranked teams. Move over NBA playoffs, cause March Madness IS the best basketball event, though.
I prefercollegeball but i do watch Lebron and the cavs.
I definately agree with you. Thecollegekids look like they play with more heart and emotion. The rivalrys stand out more than in the NBA and is more exciting. College B-ball is better but i do like to watch the NBA also.

College is much better to watch. NBA is to me a bunch of overpaid players who occasionally try hard in important games. Granted, some players play all out all the time. The only NBA games I will watch are the playoffs and even then it will not even close thecollegein excitement, hustle and entertainment.
college
College basketball is to pro basketball what amateur wrestling is to the WWE. And I HATE the WWE!
nba its longer and funner in my opnian
The reason I hate the NBA is mainly because of their entrance rule(you have to be out of high school for one year in order to make yourself eligible for the NBA draft). People who graduate high school @ the age of 19(while it may not happen often, it does happen) have the opportunity to go straight to the NBA without stepping foot on acollegecampus. I personally think if you wanna go to the NBA, you should be outta high school for at least 2 years.
NBA
NCAA b/c they play with heart, effort, and they dont get paid so they're playing for pride. nba players play for money so they dont even have to try b/c at the end of the day, they get their dinero. andcollegeis so much exciting. on any day, an unranked team can upset a top 5 team. the excitement fromcollegebball is just so unpredictable.

well, there was NCAA basketball, which is a mens league. then they added women's teams. since it came 2nd, it had to be called something else, like Women's basketball or Woman's NCAA. nothing personal, but if I bought a NCAA basketball game ticket, and it turned out to be a woman's game, I would be upset.

I watched a little bit of the tournyment, and it's not boring, it's just slower and fewer points are scored. they are still great athletes.
I have to be honest %26amp; say that I really hate womens basketball. I can't think of a reason, just I really can't watch it. I know women play b-ball, but I am just not interested in it. In fact, I really don't know anyone who watches it!
I like watching both women and men play, but since women don't show off and dunk like men...we really don't get any espn time or anytime in the fans eyes. The only thing you see in the highlights and on tv are nba...and ncaa mens teams.
becuz womens basketball isnt a sport
People haven't lost sight of it because they were never watching in the first place. It is simply not anywhere near as entertaining as the men's game. Sorry to be the realist here, but there is no above-the rim game to speak of and the girls are simply not as athletic as the men so it is not nearly as entertaining, plain and simple.
It is still just this simple over-all womens basketball is not yet as popular or commonly watched as mens...Although I have recently become a big fan of Both...Hang in there moma..
that is why it would benefit the women to not have their season at the same time the guys have theirs, because unfortunately the women get lost / forgotten
Yeah, its really sad. Its hard for women's sports to get recognition and attention. It will probably get better in the future..........in the mean time...UNC sucks!!!!!!
Agree baby. But NCAA men's basketball is definitely more interesting. Women's basketball is sexy nonetheless.

What are the chances of playing D 1 college basketball?

Well i am 14 years old and i do not think that i am going to grow alot more. I am the best player on our team and average 8 points per game out of 24 points. we have 8 players on our team. i have been to alot of camps and have been some of the best players at the camps. I live in a town of 3,000 and our town is not known for basketball. what should i do to become a better player?

What are the chances of playing D 1collegebasketball?nba warriors

D1 basketball is not an easy thing to come by my friend. My advice to you would not be to bank on growing more, but rather refine and perfect those skills that you are best at ie shooting, passing and defense. Larry Bird, I'm sure you've heard of him, came from a similar small town and made quite the name for himself. One thing he did, was every night, he made 100 jump shots before he could stop. He even brobed his Dad to force him to stay at there, by promising straight A's. If height is a problem for you, then work on your passing, man on man defense, and shooting. Focus on the skills that best suit you, work hard, and make sure you have good grades, because alot of D1 schools look to that as well. But most importantly, have a good attitude. That's very important in thecollegegame.

What are the chances of playing D 1collegebasketball?nba records ,nba teams

I also live in a small town and I'm a 16 year old Junior thats the second leading scorer in Missouri with 24 points per game, and 6 rebounds, I 'm also hoping to play D-1 and what I'm thinking about is a small D-1collegeinstead of trying to get into Duke or UNC that would be unreal Report It

your going to need to be a 3 point shooter like jj redick. D1 schools care mostly about the players being amazing athletes because they know they can mold them into players with practice. Division 2 is full of players who could be D1 but just aren't quite the athlete they want. Report It

Never give up trying. Remember that Michael Jordan was cut from his high school team before trying out as a walk on at North Carolina. We all know what happened then. If he had quit trying, where would he be? Report It

well to be fair michael jordan was cut as a sophmore, and rumor has it that his coach never let anyone below a junior on the varsity team Report It

They were 1 in 10 billion for me being a white kid in an affluent suburb
move to a ball playing city. live next to a park where all the ballers go and play them. thats the best way to get better. copy their moves. shooting around on your own wont help when a mans in your face and your playing top speed. chances are youll just have to make a name for yourself since according to you nobody knows you. play travel ball and show people your skillz
1st of move somewhere with more than 3000 people or ur not gunna get noticed and then see if your the best in a town of 30,000 and if u r then go to like a YMCA and shoot evryday then get your varsity coach to get D 1 coachez to notice you

How do I contact college basketball coaches?

Is there any websites or does anyone know how I can contact different D1 basketball coaches like Todd Lickliter and others?

How do I contactcollegebasketball coaches?basketball shoes

i have some experience contacting coaches. the best thing to do is to Google the teams name followed by athletics ie university of Indiana athletics. and then look for the athletic staff directory on the site. a lot of the time they will have the basketball office or the basketball secretary call that number and they should be able to transfer you to a coach. you should make sure to call between hours like 9-4 oclock to insure that a coach is there also it will be good to have a highlight tape or best game tape or stats or transcript to be sent to the university at the coaches request

but i stress the best way to accomplish this is to go to your high school coach and tell him who you are interested in and ask him if they can call there coach. colleges are more likely to listen to a coach when it comes to a player rather than listening to a family member of the player or the player himself

I have a rating and prediction model forcollegefootball and I would like to develop similar model forcollegebasketball. To do that, I need to find game results data in an organized form (preferably in csv, but anything will do). Where can I find that - or that I generate it from a site that keeps that kind of data (espn.com) with some tricky programming?

You can do this with a custom PHP Scraper tool that will check the results of ESPN.com every XX minutes and output the results in a CSV. It'd cost you some money to get it done but depending on your budget, I might be able to find someone for you.

How do u get a scholorship for basketball in canada to go to college/university in the states?nba 07

First of all, it is far too early right now. No one will admit you tocollegeat 13, because it is not clear that you will develop into the kind of player acollegewould want yet. First of all, unless you are well over 6' tall, you would have to extraordinarily good. However, what you can do is to keep yourself in the public eye. Being in the regionals is good, and hopefully eventually you could get into nationals and try for things like summer basketball camps in the states. The problem with being in Canada is that most coaches don't naturally look for players there, so you won't be noticed by scouts unless you put yourself into places where scouts hang out. I suspect you may live near Niagara, since its basketball team is clearly NOT in a league with the others you mention. If that is the case, though, you may want to look to see if they have anything like basketball camps which you could attend, since I know that they take a high number of Canadian students.

Secondly, if you get a basketball scholarship for a school in the states, it will come from that school, not from Canada. They are allowed to offer a certain number of scholarships to student/athletes each year - no one in Canada has anything to do with that.

Do college basketball fans agree that coaches and referees should matter more than players?

For people that prefercollegeb-ball to pro (year round, not just March Madness) don't you like the fact that coaches do a job of keeping the players under control and teaching the young men (and all the rest of us) valuable life lessons in the process?

Coaches I think do matter...although you don't have many like the old John Wooden or Bob Knight types that run their programs with no interference, etc.

As for the referees, if I know their names they ain't doing their job. I don't watchcollegeball to see the refs, they need to just do their thing.

You have to join a high school team to get people to see your talents. If no scouts see you playing then you can't get anywhere.
Go to camps and there may be, if you are lucky, scouts checking it out. Hope this helps!
walk on. try out for the schools team. if youre as good as you say you are, you should have no problem getting a spot.
if i were u i would just try out for it an if they say ur good enough then u made the team...good luck
Figure out what schools you want to go to and contact their recruiters, send in tapes of yourself playing (wherever you do). Otherwise, when you do go to college, you can always go to their walk in tryouts.
send tapes of you playing I assume that you play AAU or a travling team if you played all your life.Or you can always attempt to walk on to a school.

NBA team. Think about it: Boston versus UNC. . . . . The size of the players is so different. Hansbrough versus KG? Please. They say the speed is on a different dimension, the players are the best of the best. There is no question acollegeteam could not hang with a NBA team.

You would go tocollegeand major in sports management, sports psychology, or education with emphasis in sports leadership. Incollegeyou would do a internship as the mens or womens team manager. Aftercollegeyou could either go to get your masters or get some experience by becoming an assistant coach somewhere. After you have work experience as a assistant coach for a few years you should be able to get a head coaching job. Keep in mind that d3 bball coaches get paid very poorly, advancement is tough, and it is difficult to keep the job unless your team has a successful record (bad records are always blamed on coaches). Most high school coaches teach in the school system that they are coaching.

Apparently this 52 year old did not play for a NCAA school.

Either military service or missionary service does not count against NCAA eligibility after graduating from college.

While still in the military and attending a NCAA college, my father, married with four children, played NCAA level baseball in his thirties after having played NCAA level football, basketball, and baseball when he was 18 and 19 years old before joining the military.

He never playedcollegebasketball where he played baseball in his 30s and wasn't the oldest ever; however, with continuous military and/or missionary service after high school, there is no age limit as far as elibibility in playing NCAA Division I.
I found one player who was 52. Please see:

Who knows how they rank college basketball teams?

What i dont understand is that the ACC is one of the top leagues incollegebasketball. Three teams in there are ranked in the top ten most tough schedules like Boston College is 9th, but how can Duke be ranked when you have a team like Boston College who has a better record than Duke it makes no sense how Duke can be ranked and Bostoncollegeisn't even in the top 25 and also Maryland is ranked 17 who has the same record as Boston college.

Who knows how they rankcollegebasketball teams?nba salaries

done by votes from sports writers(AP) who rank their top 25 teams, if your ranked #1 you get 25 points 2nd 24, etc. The point totals are added together and the top 25 teams are in the poll. It's pretty subjective so that's why you have teams like Duke ranked as high as they are.

What is the deal withcollegebasketball players leaving so early from school?nba hoops

MONEY

What is the deal withcollegebasketball players leaving so early from school?nba 2k7 ,nba teams

If you have a career ending injury though you will still have millions of dollars to go back on. They just want to get paid for playing basketball and be famous. Playing in the NBA is a dream to every player so if they are good enough to get drafted in the first round they will go. I do wish they stayed longer incollegebut you can't stop them from going if they are good enough to play in the NBA.
Then you go back to school. If you were offered a job in your field after your sophmore year making 80k a year, I guarentee you'd jump on the opportunity. This is their career. This is what they will do for a living. Why wait when your industry is in demand of you?

You do realize there arecollegegraduates starving in this country, right? You do realize the job market is in total chaos, right? You do know that even the best doctor's make only 100k a year coming out of college, that business school graduates average 22k a year out of college? Even European ball players make more than that.
Greed, plain and simple. They allow their minds to be controled by cash, instead of self worth, and think they will make so much in the NBA, when most dont even shine, or even get much playing time. I always thought it was best for them to finish and get their degrees, then enter the draft, and "see". After a couple of seasons, one will know if they have a chance in succeeding in the pros,a nd if not, at least they tried it, made some cash, but have an education and degree to further their initial career with. Lets face facts, only handfuls actually truly make it and last, especially those that shined incollegeand couldnt do much in NBA.
If they are doing what they love, then why shouldn't they pursue it further, while making much money from it. If an injury would happen, or if they feel that the career (IT IS A CAREER) wasn't for them any more, then they could always go back to school. Let's say you go tocollegeto be a surgeon. And you get into an accident and your hands are useless. Should someone tell that person they should have opted for another career because of possible injury? Personally, I'm not envious of the money they make. Maybe you should think about your reasons for caring so much!!
your just stupid...
lol you saidcollegediploma. Incollegethey get degrees. Money, Family, and Media pressures them to go to the NBA.
If you have ever experienced POVERTY you would jump at the chance to end your fears of being poor forever!

There is also the risk of playing 4 years incollegeand getting a severe knee injury in your senior year - WILL THE NBA PAY YOU MILLIONS IF YOU GET A SERIOUS INJURY? I can't really blame players who leavecollegeearly to nail down their future financial opportunity. These guys have families too, and a lot is riding on being able to pay back all the people who supported you for many years.

Players always have the opportunity to return tocollegein their later years to complete a degree and a few of the really smart ones do that. Many of them also give back to their schools financially and support their former colleges for the rest of their lives. As long as the market pays such spectacular money to leavecollegeearly I will not criticize players for taking the payday. I'll miss their skill in thecollegegame, but I can certainly understand the pressure to make sound financial choices for the themselves and their families.
if you are offered 3 million dollars in a rookie contract what would you do?
There's no way they should pass up that money. If they get injured it could cost them millions. They can always get their diploma while they are playing pro ball or after they're playing days are over.
Money most definatly. if you could get paid to do something you love then wouldnt you rather get paid for it than not? bc if you got hurt in your next year you could never go pro or make the money. but if you go on even if you get hurt you can always come back and get your education
Follow the Money!!!!

These young men feel like they are risking a pro career by staying in college, because the what if scenario; What if I get injured (no career), What if I have a bad season or two after my freshman/Sophomore year, (draft order drops and make far less money, or fall out of the draft completely). So as you can see it is all driven by the dollar. The sad thing is that 40-50% of these guys only have a career between 1-3 year long and they get paid league minimum. Many of us who arecollegeGraduates with good jobs are making better pay than the players in that situation. Everyone wants to belive all NBA players make millions but that's not true. Players drafted late in the second round or who are undrafted free agents have are paid less than a well paidcollegegraduate. That is why many at echlelons above reality have pushed to try to get young players to stay in school (in case their career in sport fails). But as long as the lure of the dream is so strong young men will continue to drop out ofcollegeto play a game for money.
It depends on the player's priorities. If they want to make money then they go to the NBA to make money and to become a superstar. Some players, who I think are making the smart choice, stay incollegefor the four years and get their diploma. But when they enter the draft, they might be outpicked by a freshman who happens to be just as good as them.
They are not allowed to go to the NBA strait out of high school, so they go tocollegefor a year then they go.

it's stupid but thats what they do.
